Our story

Gregory Waithaka, a native of the Mathare community in Nairobi (Kenya) established Lea Mathare Foundation. Gregory’s own journey reflects the challenges faced by many children in Mathare—he lost his mother at a young age, endured periods of homelessness, and was involved in illicit activities. Despite these hardships, Gregory’s life changed when he had the opportunity to play football abroad. Upon returning to Mathare, he was inspired to give back to his community. In 2013, he founded the Lea Mathare Foundation, aiming to provide education and support to vulnerable children in the slum. Since then, the foundation has impacted over 1,000 children throughout the years, offering hope and opportunities for a brighter future.
